PAUL LUCAS
This is my story.
I hated going to therapy
but this is what we did throughout my childhood. It was a weekly event. We went, we listened, we talked about feelings and then back home. Rinse & repeat.
We did that for years. Not sure what we got out of it. It was just something we did.
I was unhappy and confused
so I too went to therapy as a young adult. Life was okay, nothing to jump up and down for but also nothing to get too dark about either. I just wasn’t feeling it. Everyone else around me looked happier. So, there I was inside a counselling office. I shared what I felt. Their response felt like a stab in the chest. “I don’t think I can help you Paul, I have never been unhappy in my life.” Like, what? Really? Never? I left that office feeling even worse. I was right, everybody around me is happier. This is a me problem.
Few years later I found myself
spending a lot of time coaching others who felt unhappy. I realized it wasn’t just me. It’s everyone, except for that one therapist who apparently doesn’t feel any emotions except happiness. Good for him. I learned that so many folks were in my spot just a few years back.
I decided to offer what others
were not offering. I went back to school, got my baseline education in counselling and then further education in couples and relationship therapy. I was determined to do all I can help others not feel alone.

Limitations: I am not a psychotherapist and do not practice the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy. As such, I do not provide treatment for severe mental health disorders. I own and operate a private practice and not an emergency clinic, therefore I am not available for emergencies or crisis calls. I believe all counsellors should practice within their individual scope, and as such, I will only practice within my scope and will provide referrals as needed.
